Growth Hormone, Serum
Growth Hormone (GH) is produced by the pituitary gland and plays a central role in growth, body composition, muscle and bone health, metabolism, and tissue repair. GH levels fluctuate significantly throughout the day, with peaks during sleep, exercise, and fasting. This test measures the level of GH circulating in your blood at the time of the draw. Abnormally low GH levels in adults may contribute to increased body fat, reduced muscle mass, decreased bone density, fatigue, and impaired quality of life. Elevated levels may suggest a pituitary tumor (such as a GH-secreting adenoma) or other conditions leading to excess GH production. GH testing is often used alongside IGF-1 for a more complete assessment of growth hormone status.
