Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) [LC-MS/MS]
Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is an essential B vitamin involved in the synthesis of coenzyme A (CoA) — a molecule critical for energy metabolism, fatty acid synthesis, and the production of steroid hormones, neurotransmitters, and hemoglobin. Because B5 is involved in so many metabolic pathways, deficiency can manifest as fatigue, irritability, numbness or tingling in the extremities, digestive disturbances, and impaired wound healing. While severe deficiency is uncommon due to B5's wide availability in foods, suboptimal levels can occur in individuals with restrictive diets, malabsorption conditions, or high metabolic demand. This test measures blood levels of pantothenic acid to help identify deficiency and guide supplementation.
