MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) is an enzyme that plays a key role in the metabolism of folate, a B vitamin that is essential for normal brain function and the production of DNA. MTHFR DNA analysis involves testing for genetic variations in the MTHFR gene that may affect the enzyme's function. These variations, known as polymorphisms, can result in an increased risk of certain health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, neural tube defects, and certain types of cancer.
