Folate, also called folic acid or vitamin B9, is important for regenerating new tissues, producing new DNA, creating and recycling proteins, and making new blood cells. Abnormal folate levels can be a sign of a poor diet or nutritional deficiencies and may provide clues about certain types of anemia.
