Amylase

Amylase is a digestive enzyme produced primarily by the pancreas and salivary glands. It plays a key role in breaking down starches into sugars for absorption. Elevated amylase levels may indicate pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), pancreatic duct obstruction, or other gastrointestinal conditions. Low levels may suggest chronic pancreatic damage or reduced pancreatic function. Amylase testing is often used alongside lipase to evaluate pancreatic health and investigate symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, nausea, or unexplained digestive issues.
